Shu Brocade Dragon-Phoenix Pair Hanging Screens · The Mother-of-All Brocades

$400,000.00

The original work of this piece has won an international gold award. This rendition is created by the closed-door disciple of the original master. This pair of decorative screens inherits the national-level intangible cultural heritage craft of Shu Brocade — long known as the "Mother of Brocades" and the source of Chinese brocade art.

One panel depicts soaring dragons amid auspicious clouds and ocean waves; the other portrays elegant phoenixes surrounded by clustered blossoms. Woven in gold, silver and ivory threads on a rich crimson ground, the fabric is finished with a border of scrolling floral motifs.

The dragon stands for prosperity and power; the phoenix embodies blessing and peace. Together they signify harmonious union and abundant good fortune. Set in dark solid-wood frames, the screens suit home display and collecting, and make a fine wedding gift or a distinguished cultural present in business.

Woven by the traditional multi-weft jacquard technique, the fabric is rich and saturated in colour, with a three-dimensional texture.
